I'm starting a list to track government's efforts to coerce your personal choices toward it's preferred vision of your future. We'll revisit this list in the future as I find other examples.
- 2010: San Francisco bans the inclusion of toys with Happy Meals. Now we've got that evil clown by the balls! Just try and give another toy to a little kid, you iniquitous purveyors of grease and sugar!!
- 2010: New York seeks to ban use of food stamps for "sugary drinks". This effectively puts soda into the same category with alcohol and tobacco.
- 2010: Oregon bans most everything about homebrewing beer, except perhaps looking at it. This includes judged competitions, brew-club tasting nights, and even transport of a six-pack to your friend's house.
- 2010: Federal government imposes 10% tax on tanning.
- 2006: New York bans trans-fat in restaurants. You needn't have that choice, no matter how yummy it looks.
- 2004: California bans .50-caliber rifles, claiming terrorism threat. Nevermind that there aren't any examples of prior crime or terrorism involving these expensive "enthusiast guns".
- 1984: Goverment makes seatbelt use mandatory. Defy the will of the government, and you will fined for your insubordination.
